Cherokee, NC is not a pretty town - some campgrounds, a park and lots of junky Native American souvenier stores. So we went to Harrah's Cherokee Casino, where we wandered around and stopped for cappuccino.
There are many casinos throughout the US that are owned by Indian Tribes and some are managed by Harrah's. The largest Indian casinos are Foxwood's (the largest in the world) and Mohecan Sun, both in Connecticut.
We stayed at the Fort Wilderness Campground, definitely one of our least favorite c'grounds ever, in Cherokee, which is near the Tennessee border, so that we could take day trips into the Smoky's, which are awesome. This day, we drove to Newfound Gap, one of the noteworthy stops.
