-----Pike's Place Market

We had a great time walking through Pike's Market and enjoyed our lunch of seafood chowder at the Pike's Place Chowder restaurant (actually a small sit-down stall). And of course we got to see the guys throwing the fish around at the Pike's Place Fish Company stall.

There are really nice flower stalls here, selling magnifi-cent bouquets for $10 - couldn't buy one though, or anything else at the market, as we were going to be walking around all day & into the evening. We also came back here for dinner (really wanted more of that delicious chowder, but the market closes at 6:00 PM). So we wound up having a fabulous dinner at The Steelhead Diner, which was recommended to us by the valet parking guys. This is not a diner as we know it in NJ - it's an upscale well-known restaurant with delicious food. Our appetizer was a Caviar Pie, served with flavored little toasts. During the day, we also took the Underground Seattle Tour, recommended to us by our guidebooks and Joe's sister, Joanne.

Today's downtown Seattle is built over the original town. It had to be rebuilt after the fire of 1889, and was purposefully done higher, so that the sewage would flow down, hopefully to Tacoma, the guide said jokingly?!
