Irene was so excited to be going to our first state fair - as a city girl, it was a hoot! She wanted to see every single animal. All of these animals, plus others not shown, were entered by youngsters trying to win ribbons. We even saw 2-week-old piglets - boy, do they squeal!
This is a really unusual, and we think potentially dangerous, event - "Mutton Bustin" . The little kids, one was only three, hold on for dear life while the lamb runs across the arena. Of course, they fall off right away, so the rodeo guy runs right after them to pick up the kid before the animal stomps on him, or her. Don't think we'd let our grandchildren do this.
Here is a real Brahma bull. They are distinguished by that hump below their neck. Many of the owners of all of these animals, and there were many, are female - couldn't get over their cleaning the muck, washing the animals, etc.
