Port Townsend, WA

Port Townsend, located sort of on the corner of the Strait of Juan de Fuca and Puget Sound, is about eight miles from our campground in Chimicum, and is very charming. The city is also known for the many Victorian buildings remaining from its late 19th-century heyday, and the Port Townsend Historic District is a U.S. National Historic Landmark District. We visited several times, Joe more than Irene, because he would drive over to stroll the downtown and the uptown and take yet more photos while Irene was in NJ. ---Left & Right: views of Port Townsend as seen from the ferry we took over to Whidbey Island, across the Strait.

Left: There was a movie festival during one of the weekends we were in the area - this large screen was one of the outdoor venues. There were also several regular theatres. The people milling about were festival volunteers, who can be seen eating something delicious as a reward for their work. ---Right: a sailboat with beautiful foggy & snow-capped Mt. Baker, elevation 10,778 feet, in the background. We liked to walk to the marina, stroll around & watch the boats. Too bad we missed the Trident submarine sailing into the harbor that morning on its way to the naval base nearby.
