Huckleberries and Cherries abound in this area, as well as in Idaho (their state fruit is the huckleberry). Here we are visiting a huckleberry "outlet" - of course we have to take a photo of Joe with John Wayne (Joe looks tougher!). You'll recognize Scarlett O'Hara, Steve Irwin (the Crocodile Hunter) and Johnny Depp from Pirates of the Caribbean on his other side. ---We purchased one pound (3 cups) of huckleberries for $10. Irene added one cup of blueberries to that and made a delicious 9" pie (Joe said it was the best thing Irene's ever made). Of course, he said that in hopes she'll make another one! At another fruit stand, we purchased 2 lbs. of freshly picked cherries for eating out of hand - can't make a pie with sweet cherries - you need tart cherries. Joe was also very happy that Irene finally got to use her Cuisinart and her rolling pin that we've been carrying around for almost 15 months!
