While staying overnight in Smelterville, ID, we drove to Kellogg (no photos - wasn't worth any) and Wallace, which was a step back in time. Wallace is known as the "Silver Capital of the World" and the whole town is on the National Register of Historic Places. Its Oasis Bordello operated from 1895 through 1988! Some of you may remember the beautiful movie star, Lana Turner - she was born in Wallace in 1921 and lived her first six years here before moving to San Francisco. ---Here are photos of the very attractive train station, one of the main streets, and Joe practicing to be a miner. We went to a flea market and Irene bought 5 VHS movies for fifty cents each! Great to have when we can't get good TV reception.
