Hoover Dam, also sometimes known as Boulder Dam, is a concrete arch-gravity dam in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River, on the border between Arizona and Nevada. Lake Mead is the reservoir formed behind the dam, and this lake is a very active recreational site. When completed in 1935, Hoover Dam was both the world's largest electric-power generating station and the world's largest concrete structure. It was surpassed in both these respects in 1945 by the Grand Coulee Dam located in the state of Washington. We did visit the Grand Coulee and it is four times the size of the Hoover Dam.
