To get an idea how big the Athabascan Glacier really is, look at the photo below left: in the lower right corner, you can just make out the busses parked there, delivering tourists. We got to walk on the glacier and make snowballs!
The glacier is 3.6 miles from the icefield to the "toe" of the glacier, and is about 850 feet "deep" just below the lower icefall. It's about 180 feet deep at the toe, near where we are. This glacier is as thick as the Eiffel Tower is tall!
