Liard Hot Springs is the second largest hot spring in Canada and is located near Historical Milepost 496 of the Alaska Highway. Irene can be seen gingerly lowering herself into the very hot water.
There are raised walkways from the parking area to the springs so that the delicate muskeg is not disturbed. Unknown to us at the time, the walkway was the scene of a much-publicized black bear attack that killed two tourists in 1997.
We parked overnight near the walkway in our coach by the picnic enclosure and saw a bear - luckily we were in for the night!
