The City of Dawson and the nearby ghost town of Forty Mile are featured prominently in the novels and short stories of famed American author Jack London, who lived in Dawson from October 1897 to June 1898.
We read that his was not the original location of his cabin, but was constructed with half of the orignal logs. The other half was used to build another cabin in his hometown in California. Notice the small "house" on stilts. People used these to store food so that the bears wouldn't get it.
