DENALI NATIONAL PARK, ALASKA - 6/22 THRU 6/25/09

-----Denali National Park is 9492 square miles and contains "Denali", formerly known as Mt. McKinley, the tallest mountain in North America at 20,320 feet above sea level.
-----We took an 8-hour guided bus tour of Denali. The weather was iffy all day, but we did get to see some wildlife. Pictured here are the red fox and the wolf that very calmly walked by our bus.

The grizzles - a mom and her 2 cubs - were in a nearby field. We also saw mountain goats, dall sheep, 2 herds of caribou and bald eagles.
-----The word "Denali" means "the great one" in the native Athabascan language and refers to the mountain itself.
-----It rained and often poured every day we stayed in the Denali area. As of now, we've been in Alaska for two weeks, but have not yet seen the scenery we'd hoped to see.
