CHENA HOT SPRINGS RESORT -- FAIRBANKS AK

Despite the fact it was a drizzly afternoon, we went to the Chena Hot Springs - boy, if you walked around the grounds, you'd be eaten alive by huge mosquitoes. It was very pleasant in the water, and very warm. There was also a nice indoor pool and hot tub, which we liked.

-----For an additional admission, you could go to the Ice House - the inside was completely done by ice-carving --the walls, decorations, the bar, the bedroom, the commode!, etc.
-----We were really eager to see the Ice House as we had seen it on the Travel Channel on one of their extreme-homes segments when we were still living in NJ and never dreamed we'd actually get to see it in person.

You could pay $20 for a martini and sit at the bar, all sculpted in ice.

Chess, anyone? You were provided with heavy coats, but Irene also brought her earmuffs and gloves.

A cozy(?) fireplace setting?
