Jefferson was chosen because he was the author of the Declaration of Independence, out third President, and the mastermind of the Louisiana Purchase, which doubled the size of our country. ---Right: Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th President, who promoted construction of the Panama Canal and ignited progressive causes such as conservation and economic reform - the "trust buster". And Abraham Lincoln, our 16th President, whose leadership restored the Union and ended slavery on U.S. soil.
