Colorado Springs, CO - 7/10 thru 7/14/08

We stayed at the second worst camp-ground ever, Fountain Creek - the sites were very narrow and our bedroom windows were about 50 feet from a very busy highway. Plus, the guy next door revved up his diesel engine at 6:00 A.M. for quite a while on the day he left. It was right next to Irene's open bedroom window - ruined her day!
---Left: a view of downtown Colorado Springs, altitude 5980 ft.
---Right: the much-depleted Helen Hunt Falls. There was a poor runoff from the mountains here, so the Falls aren't plentiful. We climbed to the top anyway. We were surprised that the runoff from the mountains was so poor, as Lake Powell in Utah is experiencing the best runoff in years. The ranger told us that those lake & waterfalls on the western side of the Continental Divide were doing great, but not those in Colorado on the eastern side of the Divide.
