Aspen, CO - 7/2/08

While staying in Buena Vista, CO, we took a few day trips with our car. Our trip to the beautiful ski town of Aspen (altitude 9000 ft.) was great.
---Left: Our first stop on the way to Aspen was Twin Lakes, a village now designated a National Hisoric District due to its gold & silver mining history-- just breathtaking! That's Mt. Elbert in the background - Colorado's highest peak at 14,433 feet. Isn't it difficult to believe this is in the United States - picture postcard views all the way.
---Right: A view on the way up.

---Left: to get to Aspen, we drove over the long, winding Independ-ence Pass and reached the Continental Divide (altitude 12095 ft.). We really felt like we were on top of the world. Then, we drove downhill from there, into Aspen.
---Right: one of the many magnificent groves of Aspen trees, seen on the way into the town.
