George-town (eleva-tion 8519 ft.) was founded in 1859 and grew from a small mining camp tucked into a scenic valley into Colorado's first great silver mining town. It was designated as part of a National Historic Landmark District and named one of the twelve most distinctive destinations in the U.S. by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

George-town is not a restored Victorian town - it really is a Victorian town. It has over 200 historic Victorian buildings and its beauty and small-town charm have attracted filmmakers. Perhaps the most enduring of Georgetown's movie credits is John Denver's 1986 made-for-TV movie "The Christmas Gift".
