OH, NO!!! A Necessary Change of Plans!!
While we were in the Visitor's Center in Central City, CO, Irene spied a poster for a music festival billed to take place the weekend after the Annual Sturgis, So. Dakota, Motorcycle Rally, which is in the Black Hills. Typically, the rally, which this year would be held Aug.4-10 with lots of pre-rally activities, draws about 500,000 bikers and chicks and vendors to this very tiny town. That's when we had planned to be in the Black Hills area of South Dakota! What should we do? We wouldn't be able to drive around with all that commotion. It was necessary for Irene to go to South Dakota to trade in her NJ driver's license for one from SD, our new home state. To do it at another time would mean flying in and probably staying overnight. So we left Loveland one day early, even though we had paid for our campsite, drove 350 miles in the coach, which took eight and one-half hours plus the two hours we spent in Fort Laramie, and pulled in to our campground in Custer SD at almost 8:00 P.M. - We were exhausted!
